MEDIATING CONFLICT

Scott O’Malley –  This presentation and discussion will help those who find themselves mediating conflict.  Scott will discuss how to think about the two parties in the conflict, and how to best help the discussion be profitable and honoring to God.  This presentation will be for all Christians, rather than for office bearers and others who deal with conflict in more official ways.

 

THE USE AND ABUSE OF MATTHEW 18

Prof Barry GrittersA right application of principles and commands in scripture enables us to navigate even the most difficult circumstances in a way that glorifies God. And yet, because this requires wisdom, we can often misapply the texts that are meant to guide us. How do we understand and apply texts like Matthew 18 to conflict in a way that will glorify God? How can we avoid common pitfalls?

 

REPENTANCE, FORGIVENESS AND RECONCILIATON

Rev.  Paul Ipema – Repentance and forgiveness are imperative elements of the peacemaking process that lead to reconciliation. Yet we often struggle to understand what this looks like in the midst of conflict. What does true repentance look like? What does it mean to forgive from the heart?  What does it mean to be reconciled?

 

COMMUNICATION IN CONFLICT

Rev. Garry Eriks – James tells us “No man can tame the tongue” and yet we are still called to glorify God as we speak to one another during a disagreement.  What principles can help us honor God as we communicate?

 

CONFLICT IN THE LIFE OF THE APOSTLE PAUL

Rev. Eric Van Der Molen – While the Apostle Paul had one of the most important ministerial calls of all time, his life and ministry were not free from conflict. What can we learn from the inspired accounts of these interactions?

Rev. Matt Nuiver – Is peace something that marks your life? Or, do you struggle with worry, strife, anxiety and strained relationships, or disagreements with authority?  In part 1 of this series Rev. Nuiver will consider where true and lasting peace begins.

KING SAUL AND DAVID:  NAVIGATING CONFLICT WITH AUTHORITY

Dr. Mark Kelderman – The book of 1 Samuel has many references to the conflict between Saul and David.  As Dr. Kelderman walks us through this biblical narrative, we will seek to understand aspects of conflict between those in authority and those under authority, and apply this understanding to our own lives

 

BOUNDARIES WITH THE LORD

Meribeth Schierbeek – Boundaries are a growing concern in the culture today.  Do we need boundaries?  Does scripture have any guidance for us?  Together we will examine Psalm 23 and various other scripture in order to better understand who sets boundaries, who keeps boundaries and their purpose in our lives.
